October 7th and its aftermath: The war over there and the war over here

Wednesday 29 May
7.00 – 9.00pm
Online

One of the most striking features of the October 7th attacks and the Gaza war that followed, has been the degree of global ‘investment’ in the conflict. Violence in Israel/Palestine attracts outrage, passion and solidarity across the world from supporters of both the Palestinians and Israelis. Pro-Palestinian protests have attracted accusations of antisemitism and, more generally, antisemitic incidents have dramatically increased in much of the world. How then, should we understand how the conflagration ‘over there’ is played out ‘over here’? In a globalised world, can we still distinguish between a regional war and a global one?
