Celebrate 70 years of Leo Baeck College with us!
We are planning several in-person and online events designed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of LBC’s founding, spread across the entirety of 2026.
We will use this as a way of introducing a strategic, sustainable fundraising campaign building up to the 75th anniversary of the College’s founding in 2031. The delivery of this strategy will be underpinned by a robust content strategy designed with a focus on engaging progressive Jewish communities.
The purpose of this strategy is to help us diversify our income streams, grow our reach, introduce the mission of LBC to new audiences and to, primarily, ensure the longevity of LBC.

LBC improvements
Over the period of 5 years, the College must prioritise growing and expanding sustainable income streams through a combination of in-person and digital channels with focus on case-study driven storytelling, proving the College’s impact on progressive Jewish life in the UK and beyond. We are working on several perks and exciting projects:
-
The redevelopment of our Library’s Reading room
-
Steady stream of high-quality niche content
-
Lehrhaus Hebrew programme in synagogues
-
New perk tiers for our supporters

Share your LBC story
During the previous academic year (2024/2025), we celebrated 50 years since Rabbi Dr Jackie Tabick’s ordination – UK’s first woman rabbi.
During these 50 years, LBC has ordained more than 70 rabbis. Over two dozen of these extraordinary women shared their stories to commemorate this joyous occasion. In October 2025, we’ll be inviting all our alumni to come forward and share their stories to celebrate 70 years of Leo Baeck College.
In the meantime, get inspired and read through the stories our alumnae shared last year to celebrate 50 years of women rabbinate in the UK.
A truly special year...
In this academic year, Leo Baeck College will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its founding by Rabbi Werner van der Zyl, a refugee from Nazi Germany.
Leo Baeck College is a preeminent institution of Jewish scholarship and learning. 90% of serving Liberal and Reform rabbis in the UK, and many abroad, trained at the College. Leo Baeck College was proud to train Britain’s first female rabbi, first LGBTQI+ rabbi and, most recently, the first Spanish-born rabbi since the country’s expulsion of Jews in 1492.
