Celebrating LGBTQiA+ History Month
Celebrating LGBTQiA+ History Month, this short film captures the voices and experiences of some of our alumni and rabbinic colleagues. We are grateful for their openness in sharing their journeys.
Even though it was illegal to be out at the time he was ordained in 1958, we are proud of Rabbi Lionel Blue z”l and grateful for his contribution as a long-standing faculty member. Our first openly lesbian rabbis were ordained in 1989, Rabbi Elizabeth Tikvah Sarah and Rabbi Sheila Shulman z”l, and we are proud of our LGBTQiA+ alumni and faculty who lead and inspire in their pulpits and teaching roles.
For congregants, it is only through seeing people like them in positions of leadership that they feel they belong. We are proud of our alumni, and strive to create leaders who reflect our community, as well as lead with compassion, humility and care.
