LBC appoints new Director of Jewish Studies

We are delighted to share that Rabbi Dr Tali Artman-Partock, Senior Lecturer of Rabbinic Literature at LBC and Rabbi of the Sukkat Shalom Reform Synagogue, will become the next Director of Jewish Studies following Rabbi Dr Charles Middleburgh’s retirement at the end of current academic year in July.

LBC Principal, Rabbi Professor Deborah Kahn-Harris says: “I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Rabbi Dr Tali Artman-Partock as the next Director of Jewish Studies at Leo Baeck College. Rabbi Dr Artman-Partock has been for some years already a mainstay of the rabbinics faculty at LBC as well as being a more recent alumna of our rabbinical programme. Her scholarship is first-rate, she’s an outstanding teacher, and with her soon to be completed qualification in psychotherapy as well, she has the right mix to offer to our students, to support our faculty, to contribute to the senior management of the College, and to help us forge the path forward as we review our programmes. I look forward to working with Tali in her new capacity when she officially commences her new role on 1 September 2026.”

Rabbi Dr Artman-Partock reflected on her appointment: ”I am honoured and delighted to take up the role of Director of Jewish Studies, continuing a tradition of academic excellence and vocational education at Leo Baeck College. As the UK’s only progressive rabbinic school, I see it as our duty not only to give our students the best training for their role, but as an educational hub serving the whole Jewish community, celebrating our unique history, traditions and values. I hope I can bring into the role the enthusiasm I feel not only towards rabbinic literature and its academic study, but also my devotion to the people who shape our communal life, enabling them to imagine and create a bright future for us, especially in these troubled times.“

Please join us in wishing Rabbi Dr Artman-Partock a hearty Mazal Tov!
