This summer, as part of the British Library’s remarkable new project Discovering Sacred Texts, Leo Baeck College faculty and students were filmed studying a discussion in the Babylonian Talmud and in the Mishna and Tosefta of Queen Helena’s ancient, and very large, sukkah. The video is part of a series exploring the relationships between religious communities and their texts. R. Neil Janes, Dr. Laliv Clenman and Cassy Sachar recently attended the launch of the online project and enjoyed meeting the expert librarians who curated the exhibit of rare religious manuscripts, which included a holiday machzor from Provence, a Yemenite manuscript of the Torah with remarkable micrography and a stunning manuscript of the Mishneh Torah, all amongst a range of manuscripts from various faith traditions, including very early Quranic manuscripts and Zoroastrian sacred texts amongst others. The website is a fantastic resource for students, teachers and scholars, https://www.bl.uk/sacred-texts.
