Makom Sefarad´s first Summer Conference
We are pleased to share with you Rabbi Haim Casas’s words about Makom Sefarad´s first Summer Conference that took place in Seville from the 15 – 17th July:
Makom Sefarad´s first summer Conference: “Cordoba 711 – Jerusalem 2019”, 15-17th July, Seville.
This was the first time that such an event has taken place in the South of Spain. More than 30 participants from 8 different nationalities, three progressive rabbis and academics from the University of Tel-Aviv, Leo Baeck College and the University of Seville.
The programme was especially dedicated to studying and reflecting on the rich cultural exchange between Sephardic Jews and their neighbours both in medieval Spain and in the Sephardic diaspora after 1492. For this we had conferences, workshops, guided tours and a magnificent music concert in an incomparable setting, the city of Seville and the old pavilion of Morocco for the 1992 Expo, today the headquarters of “Fundación Tres Culturas”.
It has been three days of study, spirituality and friendship. Three days during which we have not only studied and lived magical moments together, but we have also built a link between us that will accompany us in the future.
We want to thank all the speakers and participants. Thanks also to “Fundación Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo” for their hospitality. Thanks to the EUPJ, Leo Baeck College, Kivunim and Arevot for their support in this beautiful adventure.
Next year more and better!
