Rabbi Professor Jonathan Magonet goes to Japan
You may not know that LBC faculty member Rabbi Professor Jonathan Magonet goes to Japan every year. This is what he writes: “In case people are curious about what I am doing while in Japan, apart from writing and teaching, I also enjoy joining with my university, Senan Gakuin University, during the annual Dontaku festival parade through the streets of Fukuoka, together with the university president and a few of the teachers, leading the football team, marching band, cheerleaders and primary school children. Thirty thousand participants from universities, high schools, businesses and societies of the town take part and about two million visitors come to watch us from all over Japan. (The name ‘Dontaku’ is actually a Japanised version of the Dutch ‘Zontag’, Sunday.) I get to practise the ‘royal wave’ and am proud to represent Leo Baeck College on the international stage”.
