Reading Sheila Reading

On Thursday 21st November we held a very special evening to mark the fifth yahrzeit of Rabbi Sheila Shulman, “Reading Sheila Reading”, organised by Dr Laliv Clenman LBC Senior Lecturer in Rabbinic Literature and librarian Cassy Sachar. Attended by friends, colleagues, congregants, rabbis, students and teachers it was a raucous, poignant yet joyful evening of learning, memory, books, food and song.

To celebrate the accession of many books from Sheila’s library into our library at Leo Baeck College we asked our speakers to respond to books that originally belonged to Sheila, many of which contain scribblings on her famous post-it notes. Their diverse contributions were full of thought, humour and insight and enabled Sheila’s voice and presence to be felt once again.
