Leo Baeck College welcomes applications from disabled students and students with long-term health conditions, neurodivergence or specific learning differences.
The College is committed to providing an inclusive learning environment and to making reasonable adjustments to ensure that disabled students are not placed at a substantial disadvantage in accessing and participating in their studies.
Applicants and students are encouraged to tell the College about any disability or support requirements so that appropriate support and reasonable adjustments can be discussed. Information about disability or support needs is considered separately from the assessment of an applicant’s academic suitability for a programme.
Reasonable adjustments are agreed on an individual basis in consultation with the student and in accordance with the College’s Disability Support Policy. Adjustments may apply to learning and teaching, coursework and other assessments, examinations, presentations, attendance arrangements, and vocational or professional components of a programme, where appropriate.
As a small specialist institution, the College recognises that there may be practical limitations on the support or adjustments it can provide, particularly in relation to its premises, resources and the specialist nature of some aspects of its programmes. The College will nevertheless consider each student’s circumstances individually and explore reasonable and appropriate ways of removing or reducing any disadvantage. Where a particular adjustment cannot reasonably be made, the College will discuss this with the student and, wherever possible, consider suitable alternatives.
Students may be asked to provide appropriate supporting evidence where this is necessary to determine suitable adjustments. In considering reasonable adjustments, the College will take account of academic and professional requirements, competence standards, health and safety requirements, and what is reasonable and practicable in the circumstances.
Students and applicants should also be aware that parts of the College are located within a Grade II* listed building, which can present some accessibility challenges. Anyone with particular access requirements is encouraged to contact the College so that these can be discussed in advance.
Full details of the process for requesting and agreeing reasonable adjustments, and the support available to students, can be found in the College’s Disability Support Policy here.
