Leo Baeck College does not own either halls of residence or other types of student accommodation. Students are responsible for finding their own accommodation. We advise that students arrive at least two weeks before the beginning of the academic year to find housing.
Private accommodation for rent is available in the Finchley area and our recommendation is that students live in proximity to LBC where possible. Students are likely to pay between £150 and £200 a week for a single room (bedsit) with cooking facilities. Students often choose to rent flats together and share the costs. LBC is sometimes notified about rooms available in the vicinity, so students should ask the College Office or look on the College Facebook page for more information.
Other ways of finding properties to rent:
- Notice boards in newsagents’ windows. This can often be a cheaper way of finding accommodation rather than going through an estate agent.
- Newspapers: One example is Loot.com is an online advertiser, which also has a classified printed edition.
- Agencies & estate agents. These are used by landlords to advertise their properties. If students use an agency they need to be aware that agencies are not allowed to ask for a registration fee or indeed ask for payment simply for giving details about properties. They can, however, charge a fee if they find the student a property to let. Students will also need to pay for the contract and for the preparation of an inventory.
The details of agencies and estate agents can be found on the internet, such as: Rightmove, OnTheMarket and Zoopla, etc.
On application, a modest bursary is available to help single students paying for accommodation.
