Registration at the Overseas Visitors Records Office

Some overseas students are required to register with the Overseas Visitors Records Office on arrival in the UK. The visa in the passport, or the Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) visa card, or letter which was sent with the 30 day visa will state whether they will have to register with the police. If that is the case they will be asked to pay a registration fee of £34 payable by cash, or credit card. American Express, Diners Club, personal cheques as well as Euros are not accepted.

The address at which to register is:
The Overseas Visitors Records Office, 323, Borough High Street, London SE1 1JL, Tel: + 44 (0)20 7230 1208. The office is open from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm Monday to Friday. We recommend that students check that it is open. The nearest tube station is ‘Borough’ on the Northern Line.

Students will need to take with them:

  • Passport(s), not a copy.
  • Completed OCR  Registration Proforma. Click Here to Download. The Proforma must be typed (e.g. completed on a computer or laptop). The only section of the Proforma that must be completed by hand is your signature.
  • One UK passport-sized colour photograph measuring 45mm x 35mm. The photo must be PASTED to the completed pro-forma prior to attending.
  • Biometric Residence Permit –BRP, if applicable.
  • Home Office letter showing the requirement to register – if applicable. This letter is separate to the one the BRP arrived with.

Students should keep their registration document in a safe place while they are in the UK. It is also necessary to inform the police and update the registration certificate every time they change their address, place of study and personal details, extend their visa or renew their passport (there is no additional charge for this).
