Leo Baeck College welcomes applications from students who have a disability, medical condition or learning difficulty. It is committed to ensuring that its policies, procedures and activities give full consideration to enabling students with disabilities, medical conditions or learning difficulties to apply, be admitted to and participate in the College’s academic and social life. In order meet this commitment, Leo Baeck College encourages students with special needs to disclose this on their application form.
The process of considering how LBC can meet the student’s needs is kept separate from assessing the student’s academic suitability. Specific support requirements are established for UK students on receipt of a needs assessment. Leo Baeck College, in conversation with the student, will then try to find mutually agreed ways of supporting the student in his/her studies, making reasonable adjustments depending on the matter at hand. This may involve making adjustments to learning, teaching and assessment arrangements. There may, however, be situations in which the LBC will be unable to accept a student despite all attempts to make reasonable adjustments. This may be due to issues concerning physical access, special facilities or health and safety matters or else it may be due to barriers resulting from professional requirements. The College has a Code of Practice on Disabilities detailing its policies and processes.
Students should note that Leo Baeck College occupies in part a grade 2* listed building which poses certain challenges.
A small Resource bank on Special Learning Difficulties – SpLD is located in room 15. It contains information on dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and autism spectrum conditions. There is also advice for students on study skills, learning styles, note-taking, assignment writing, examination techniques and time management.
